Peace Concert To Benefit
Music Therapy And Soldiers
Some of the city’s most
distinctive musicians are stepping forward to support music therapy projects
benefiting children, adults and soldiers. The Echoes of Sound Peace Concert is
produced by music therapist Judith Pinkerton to help people deal with stress
now, as well as fund projects for local children, adults, and soldiers in
Afghanistan. This inaugural concert is an educational, healing celebration
benefiting the Las Vegas-based non-profit Center for Creative Therapeutic Arts (CCTA).
The
public is invited to attend the concert beginning at 2:00 p. m. on Sunday,
December 10, 2006 at the First Church of Religious Science at 1420 E. Harmon
Ave. Children 12 & under will enjoy an interactive event with music and art
therapy demonstrations while older children and adults attend the live-recorded
concert. A public reception follows the concert, music and art therapy event
with Peace Concert CDs produced rapidly for holiday gifts.
Raffle tickets will raise funds for iPods for Troops, a long-distance project
CCTA has undertaken. “From our location on the Community College of Southern
Nevada’s West Charleston Campus, we are reaching out to Afghanistan,” explains
CCTA Executive Director Judith Pinkerton. “The unit commander there is directing
a team of therapists to help our soldiers deal with combat stress. He is
enthused about employing Music4Life because of it’s portable and noninvasive
nature.” CCTA plans to deliver pre-programmed iPods for Troops as soon as
possible with proceeds from the concert, raffle and CD sales.
Recent experience with her son-in-law’s injury in Afghanistan fueled Pinkerton’s
desire to provide meaningful assistance for deployed military personnel. Through
the resourcefulness of CCTA’s staff, one dozen musicians eagerly stepped forward
to perform music that de-stresses lives and inspires peace to fill the heart.
Produced by Pinkerton, the concert incorporates healing formulas that have
significantly reduced anxiety, anger, depression and sadness in dozens of
research studies. In today’s world, the ability to recover from stress is
essential for optimal health.
The
Center for Creative Therapeutic Arts strives to improve health, restore balance
and build public awareness for all Nevadans through music therapy. Proceeds from
the concert, raffle tickets and cd sales will benefit nonprofit music therapy
programs
locally and abroad. Winners will take home a pair of Southwest Airlines tickets,
show tickets, dinners and holiday gifts. Benefit tickets are $25 in-advance, $30
at-the-door, and $5 for children 12 & under. To reserve seating for 12 & under,
purchase advance tickets with credit card, or for more information, please call
