Lucky Chengs

Where, on the Strip, or anyplace else in town can you be ridiculed by a Drag Queen? At Lucky Cheng's Cabaret Restaurant, that's where. Leave your inhibitions at home (along with the kids) but bring your appetite!  First the Chef performs in the kitchen, then the performers serve and while the performers perform the hostess serves.... it's one small happy family at Lucky Cheng's.

Lucky Cheng's is located in the Gold Key mall on the Strip across from the Stardust. In fact the only negative (for Lucky Cheng's, not us,

VCO publisher Marleen Marino and this reviewer) is the location. Although on the Strip, it is tucked back in the corner of the mall. Alegra our hostess, shared with us that it was economical reasons that they settled on this location, but after our fun-filled three hour experience, hopefully they will be able to change to a spot that will give Lucky Cheng's the exposure it deserves.

The original Lucky Cheng's opened in 1993 in New York City's East Village. Intended for a select few of downtown's trendiest patrons, but immediately became a favorite of New York locals and celebrities. Known as the "Drag Queen Capital of the World." Lucky Cheng's opened in January here in Vegas.

Their intention is to provide dinner, cabaret, comedy and Karaoke exclusively by outrageously funny and outlandishly attired drag queens, well to put it simply... they have achieved their goal! The decor, with its Paper Mache dragon on the ceiling, the red colors and the paper lights makes me reminiscent of some joints in San Francisco's Chinatown.

The three waitperson-performers, Dilorian Chase our MC, Alexis Dealer and Tara Deasy, were outrageously funny with their karaoke renditions of some familiar tunes while flipping and flopping and twirling and gyrating and sliding up and down a "Stripper's Pole."

At one time we were reminded that "Tipping" is not a city in China" and "We have no morals, but we do have rules." One of the "girls" removed toilet paper, from you know where! Another who turned out to actually be a girl (now) did not, to the audience's surprise, need any.

During the evening's festivities, members of the audience were chosen to participate on stage which turned out to be some "fall down" hilarious bits! It was understandably met with some reluctance by some participants, but it turned into fun for all including the partakers

All this is preceded by a WONDERFUL three course dinner, with several choices of appetizers and entrees with an pan-Asian flare and desserts . Marleen choose Grilled Chicken and Shrimp skewers and yours truly had black and white sesame coated Salmon. Now, I've had Salmon prepared many ways in many, many restaurants all over the world but I must admit, this was one of the most delicious I have ever tasted!!! Our "hats off" to Chef Ken Huff!!!!

All and all, it was a great night of almost clean fun, for an unbeatable price of $40 and even better on Wednesdays, it's half price for us locals! I highly recommend Lucky Cheng's for an evening of fantastic food and entertainment!
