                  Whip Inflation Now

MY BUDDY TOM says I talk too much about the good old days, I'm living in the past. Well Tom's been married for 30 years, what does he know about dating in your '50s? Las Vegas may think of itself as "The Entertainment Capital of the World" but there are not many inexpensive or entertaining places in Vegas at any age. Even if you liked the new nightclub scene in all the major hotels, you would need a big loan from the World Bank to go out more than once a month. Most nightclubs charge $30 to $40 to get in, $15 to $20 for a drink, and $500 to $1,000 to sit down in a booth!!!

Back in the good old days when prices for stuff got to high, President Gerald Ford came up with the "WIN" button; this was a way to rally the country to lower prices, and "Whip Inflation Now." Wow, were we naïve in those days, come to think of it, we are still naïve; maybe George Bush should get his own WIN button, "Whip Iraq Now." Don't good slogans solve problems?

The good old days are back, at least on Monday nights at the South Point Hotel & Casino. The owner, Michael Gaughan, and his family are long-time Vegas operators. In fact, at one time Michael and his father Jackie owned over 10 hotels and casinos. Michael sold all but the South Point to Boyd Gaming, and Jackie sold all his properties except The El Cortez downtown to Barrack Gaming.

The Gaughan joints are strictly casinos, no lions, no shopping malls, no fountains, just good inexpensive food, entertainment and gaming.

One of the best entertainment deals is Déjà Vu at the South Point on Monday nights starting at 7:30 p.m. in the new Fever nightclub. Last year I told you about my friends Howie and Julie and their band Doo-Wopp.com. After seven years the band broke up, and Julie teamed up with Dennis & Marcia Wise, to form Déjà Vu.

In addition to the three lead singers, together the other five members of the band have over 100 years of musical history in Las Vegas. They are Frank Sgroi, sax; Vernon Quarles, bass; John Scott, lead guitar; Dave Sudduth, drums and Johnny Grieoc, keyboard.

Déjà Vu puts on a great show in the beautiful new Fever nightclub, there is NO cover, NO minimum, a big dance floor, drinks are cheap, and they have big fluffy booths that you can sit in FREE. What a country, what a casino, what a band, what a deal, they should ALL be wearing WIN buttons…

EVERY MONDAY NIGHT
FEVER NIGHTCLUB, SOUTH POINT
NO COVER, NO MINIMUM & FREE SEATING
7:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
