The attack on Pearl Harbor was a pre-emptive military strike on the United States Pacific Fleet base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Empire of Japan's Imperial Japanese Navy, on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941 that made the United States enter World War II. Two aerial attack waves, totaling 350 aircraft, were launched from six aircraft carriers with the intent to destroy the United States Pacific Fleet. The attack wrecked two U.S. Navy battleships, one minelayer, and two destroyers beyond repair, and destroyed 188 aircraft; personnel losses were 2,333 killed and 1,139 wounded.  Damaged warships included three cruisers, a destroyer, and six battleships (one deliberately grounded, later refloated and repaired; two sunk at their berths, later raised, repaired, and restored to Fleet service late in the war)President Roosevelt delivered his "Day of Infamy" speech to a joint session of Congress on December 8, 1941.  [read more]

BODIES…The Exhibition joins forces once again with United Blood Services (UBS)to bring a second Holiday blood drive to the Tropicana Hotel and Casino on Saturday, December 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.   All donors will receive one free admission to BODIES…The Exhibition or Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, plus the choice of one admission to either Folies Bergere or Xtreme Magic with Dirk Arthur.  Anyone interested in donating can make an appointment in advance or walk-in the day of.  For appointments, please visit www.bloodhero.com and use sponsor code BODIES or call 702-228-8400 ext. 241. Individuals 17 years and older are eligible to donate.  Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds.  The typical donation process takes approximately one hour.  All donors must present proper identification - Open to the public from 10:00am–5:00pm.

Poker Legend David "Chip" Reese Dies at 56

 

 

A legend in the poker world has died at the age of 56. Chip Reese, who was the 2006 winner of the inaugural $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event at the World Series of Poker, passed away Monday night. Reese was admitted into the hospital late Monday evening in Las Vegas and then passed away in his sleep during the night.

I met Chip in December of 1974 at the Sahara Hotel's poker room. I had just been hired as the 1st female "Brushman" on the strip and Chip was a steady poker player there. Marleen Marino- Publisher.  [read more]

Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza and STOP DUI will unite to make New Year’s celebrations safer by asking diners to sign a pledge to not drink and drive during the upcoming holiday. Diners are also asked to designate a sober and responsible driver or take alternative transportation during New Year’s celebrations. Patrons are invited to any of the three Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza locations where they may sign a pledge card and in turn receive a free pizza card to use that day or on a future visit.
